Aloha friends!! Today I bring to you a review of my fantastic new Mad Gringo Hawaiian Shirt.
The shirt came in the standard and very awesome Mad Gringo box with a sweet Mad Gringo bag just like the t-shirt they sent my way. More on the box in that post. Let’s get straight to the shirt.
I chose the Running with Bamboo design. I liked this design because it had a definite Hawaiian Shirt vibe but was also pretty classy. This is a shirt I would feel comfortable wearing to “dress shirt” situations without getting “who’s the idiot with the crazy Hawaiian Shirt” remarks. Perfect for the HSF resistant office place.
This shirt looks and feels great! When I picked it up I knew it was a quality shirt and couldn’t wait to throw it on. It feels great and is the most comfortable Hawaiian Shirt I own. The fit is nice and loose but doesn’t feel like a parachute. It hangs loose without hanging too loose if you know what I mean. It has very nice coconut buttons, not the cheapy ones that look like they’re always about to fall off or crack. The pocket is buttoned as well. I’m not sure why, but it is a nice touch nonetheless. The whole shirt is nicely stitched and I can tell I will get a lot of mileage out of this shirt.
The material is 100% rayon so it feels quite nice and is quite washable. In fact, one of the things I love about the shirt is the care for label. All it says is “Wash when dirty. Dry when wet.” I wish more of my clothing was that straight forward with me. It washed great and doesn’t wrinkle a bit.
I only have two negative things I can say about the shirt. The first is the matching up of the pattern on the different pieces of the shirt. You can tell a real quality Hawaiian Shirt by looking at the pocket area or the button up area. Very expensive shirts you find in Hawaii have all these areas matched up so the pattern is continuous. Hawaiian Shirt snobs and collectors will tell you that this is a big deal. This attention to detail is not here with this shirt. Both the pocket and the button area have mismatched patterns. But this, I can live with. Who is that anal about their pattern anyway? Does a true HSFer get riled up about their pattern not matching up? No. This goes along with the whole HSF and Mad Gringo philosophy of life.
The only other negative thing is the presence of a collar button. Why do I need a collar button guys? I guess just for completeness sake. And to be fair, it’s pretty obvious it’s not actually meant to be used. The shirt itself fits me very well but the collar would not go around my neck without myself turning blue. So, if you plan on buttoning your Mad Gringo shirt up all the way then 1) dude, loosen up, and 2) you’re not going to be doing that with a Mad Gringo shirt.
Bottom line: I love this shirt. It’s very good quality for a reasonable price. I will be purchasing again. Thank you Mad Gringo.
You should show Mad Gringo some love. Catch ‘em up on twitter @MadGringoCEO and say hello, they’d love to talk to you.
Have a good Friday everyone. p34c3 and m4h4l0!
